The Good Listener: What’s More Important, Lyrics Or Music?

A very large part of the music I listen to is instrumental (without lyrics), including voices as instruments. My wife often doesn’t like the music I play. I know that the risk point (whether she’ll like it, or not) is usually the singer’s voice. This is especially true with female singers. So many singer-songwriters record flat or sharp or just off key. I wonder why they don’t correct this during the production of their recordings.
